One that never occurred to me before... leastwise, not in context with MS....paraplegia.
I was on the Able to Travel site tonight setting up an account. Able to Travel is a travel agency type of site that caters to folks with disabilities. I had to fill out a questionnaire concerning my disabilities.
One of the sections concerned how well can you walk? There were five possible answers: Paraplegia, Quadriplegia, No paralysis, Some difficulty grasping, Some difficulty walking, Some difficulty grasping and walking.
Lord knows I don't have some difficulty walking, I cannot walk as upright humans were meant to walk, period. That's not grasping at straws, it is the plain, honest, harsh truth!
My shock at seeing paraplegia or quadriplegia as a possible symptom of MS was more than a small shock. It threw me for a loop. I have never, ever, thought that I would be paraplegic, but here I am at that crossroad. Even though I know the meaning of the word; "other" folks could possibly be paraplegic, not me. That word was reserved for the "handicapped", not me.
Total denial, even though I know better.
Well, now it has hit home. I am a paraplegic and thereby handicapped. Severely so.
So I have added a new word to my MS lexicon - paraplegia.
No doubt about it I have taken another fork of this tottering path that I am on.
No one ever promised me a rose garden.
Ain't that the truth!
