Auction junkies! Don't forget the seat cushion!

It was inevitable, my husband and I have become auction junkies.
For several years we worked as mini storage managers. When you have a job like that you get the pleasure? of having to foreclose on folks who can't or won't pay their storage bill. An auction follows.

Folks come to these auctions, bid on the foreclosed units and then spend from a few minutes to a few weeks sorting, throwing away and keeping other people's belongings. At the time we were employed in the storage business I always thought it would be a little bit yucky and invasive to go through other people's "things".

Yeah well, here lately my mind has been changed to a certain degree.
We have gone to one storage auction. In these parts of the country, leastwise with this particular storage company, they are not allowed to have more that three units for auction at a time. Wow! In my heyday I have been know to have upwards of twenty ready for auction.

Anyway, it was a two unit auction. One unit was stuffed to the roof with household furniture and went for$200.00. The second unit had a sparkly, brand new dune buggy in it. It went for $2000.00. Needless to say, we did not purchase either unit. It was interesting to watch the auction. The auctioneer was a professional. Easy going and very convincing.

However, we have really found our niche, going to auctions where other people's belongings are gratefully offered to the highest bidder.
I am always looking for a bargain...

As I said, I am a bargain hunter. We have now attended several auctions. There are three auction houses within a mile from where we live. We have been to all three and consequently have bidding numbers for all three. Plus, sometimes we buy retail where we have to pay taxes and sometime we buy tax exempt. The bookkeeping on all of this can get confusing.

One of these auctions was a food auction... trust me, everything from soup to nuts was offered. Also a lot of dry goods, soap, shampoo, etc.
We bought several items. Kept part of them and then donated the rest to our church's food pantry.

My favorites are the collectibles and coin auction. My husband is an avid coin collector and he found several good deals that are now up on EBay in our store.
This latest past time keeps us out of mischief.

If you should happen to attend an auction, they can get long and the chairs are very hard. So be sure you take a comfortable seat cushion to sit on!
